Jasmine...

Is a London based Mezzo-Soprano and has been performing in the U.K. and Europe for the past eleven years.

She was originally a freelance painter studying at St. Martin's College of Art. However, she was highly musical from a young age, receiving Voice, Piano and Violin tuition and after realising music was her true passion, she enrolled in Music and Performance studies at Middlesex University, from which she graduated with honours. She later received her Masters degree in Music Performance (vocal studies) from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance where she studied with Lynton Atkinson and Helen Yorke.

Jasmine divides her time between teaching and performing, enjoying aspects of both helping others to achieve fulfilment from their music practice and discovering her own expressive potential in Opera performance. She has performed at the Barbican, Elizabeth Hall, Blackheath Halls, Hyde Park as well as other, more intimate venues.

Engagements abroad include Jezibaba ‘Rusalka’ and Madame de Croissy ‘Dialogues des Carmelites’ both for Hojotoho Opera, Amsterdam, and Kate Pinkerton ‘Madame Butterfly’ for opera Da Camera Oscura, Greece. Chorus work includes Baugè Opera festival, in ‘Fidelio’, ‘La Bohème’, and ‘Le Postillon du Longjumeau’, France. Opera roles in the U.K.: Hansel 'Hansel and Gretel’ (Opera in the Meantime), the roles of Carmen and Mercedes 'Carmen' (both for Rogue Opera), the title role of L’enfant ‘L’enfant et Les Sortilèges’, (City Lit Opera) Governess ‘The Queen of Spades’ (Opera Coast), Marquis/Doctor ‘The Trousered Traviata’, Roßweisse ‘Die Walküre’, Wellgunde ‘Das Rheingold’ (Secret Opera), Third Lady ‘The Magic Flute’ (Broadstone Music Series) and Zia Principessa ‘Suor Angelica’ (NLOP, Ormond Opera and Opera in the Meantime). Other chorus; ‘Samson and Delilah’ for Aylesbury Opera, the small-scaled work ‘It Makes No Difference’, by Simone Spagnolo performed at Tête à Tête Opera Festival, ‘The Sorcerer’ performed at the Buxton Opera House with Oxbridge Opera Company, ‘Riders to the Sea’ with City Lit Opera and ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ ‘Cendrillon’ ‘L’Enfant et Les Sortileges’ all with Trinity Conservatoire Opera.

Another area of keen interest for Jasmine is in the lesser-performed Russian Art Song. As a result, Jasmine has organised many recitals celebrating the Russian Art Song, including the series Forgotten Songs, performed to Cambridge University’s Russian Society, among other venues.

Jasmine is a fluent French speaker, hailing from the small island of Mauritius, and enjoys learning new languages in her spare time.
